Barcelona can be visited year-round thanks to its mild Mediterranean climate. But depending on your priorities — weather, crowds or budget — some periods are better than others.
Spring (April–June) — the best time
Mild temperatures, sunny days and blossoming greenery. May and June are ideal: great weather, a warming sea and major festivals. Our favourite time.
Summer (July–August) — beach and buzz
Hot and festive, perfect for the beach… but also high season: crowds, sometimes heavy heat and higher prices. Book early.
Autumn (September–October) — the sweet spot
The sea is still warm, temperatures pleasant and crowds thin out. September is excellent, with the big La Mercè festival.
Winter (November–March) — quiet and cheap
Mild compared to the rest of Europe, few crowds and low prices. Great for cultural visits, though swimming will have to wait.
Tip: whatever the season, book popular sights (Sagrada Família, Park Güell) ahead. See our activities to book section.
