Barcelona is a great base for exploring Catalonia. Here are our favourite day trips, all doable in a day.
Montserrat — the sacred mountain
About an hour from the city, this dramatic massif is home to a Benedictine monastery and breathtaking views. Reach it by train + cable car, or on a guided tour.
Sitges — the chic seaside town
Just 40 minutes by train takes you to this pretty coastal town, with its beaches, whitewashed centre and relaxed vibe.
Costa Brava — coves and turquoise water
To the north, the Costa Brava is dotted with wild coves and fishing villages like Calella de Palafrugell or Tossa de Mar. Ideal in summer.
Girona — the medieval city
Cobbled lanes, city walls, the Jewish quarter and colourful houses along the Onyar. One hour by high-speed train.
Booking: most of these trips come as guided tours with transport included — handy without a car. Take a look at our activities to book section.
